Services & Specialities

LK Planning offers a range of services that can be tailored to a particular planning or policy project. Because no two projects are identical, I take pride in integrating project context, structure, and goals into my approach for each client. I maintain relationships with many other planners, engineers, and designers and can pull together the right team to meet your project needs. In addition, I can serve as part of a larger team on projects that require a range of specialists.

Transit Planning

The world of transit is a moving target shaped by dynamic land use, economic, and environmental factors. I help clients rethink existing transit services and create new offerings that complement this changing landscape, considering emerging mobility services appropriate for the urban form and travel needs of the communities served. LK Planning can also lend transit expertise to longer-term visioning efforts related to General Plans, feasibility studies, and other strategic planning efforts at both the local and regional scale.

Sample Projects: Caltrain Short Range Transit Plan FY2018-2027, Boyle Heights Community Plan Draft EIR

Multimodal Planning and Grant Writing

Commute times and distances are shifting, especially as we come out of the COVID-19 pandemic into a new way of working and navigating the communities in which we live. I help public agencies and employers develop mobility options for the communities they serve, integrating transit, shared ride, and active transportation modes such as walking and biking. This can include crafting mobility plans for specialized groups of individuals such as seniors and youths, as well as applying for grant funding to implement these projects. I have also managed competitive grant applications for clients to help fund specific programs within an overall mobility strategy or framework and helped with ongoing grant compliance/reporting.

Sample Projects: Caltrans Active Transportation Program (ATP) Cycles 4 & 5 Grant Applications, BART Silicon Valley Phase II Program: Transit-Oriented Communities Implementation (FTA-funded)

Policy & Research

Have an idea for a new program or looking to better understand a transportation challenge in your community? I can help conduct research and analysis to document existing conditions and best practices related to your project or idea. I can also facilitate workshops and research interviews with planners, policymakers, and stakeholders to better understand the problem at hand and work with you to develop possible solutions and recommendations to move forward. End products include research whitepapers and presentations for sharing with stakeholders in your community.
